Whether you use your cap to complete your style, keep the sun out of your eyes, or to keep your hair tucked neatly, you’ll probably want to keep your cap clean. Here are our top five tips to keep your favorite cap in tip top condition!
Wash by hand, not machine. You can throw a new cap into the washing machine, but hand washing is your safest bet to keep your cap from wear and tear. Take the time to be extra gentle to a woolen cap, since it might fray or unravel under a strong wash.
Clean your cap in a sink. Plug your sink and fill it halfway up with cold water. Pour a bottle cap of detergent into the running water to fill the sink with soapy suds. Avoid using cleaning products containing bleach if you want your cap to stay nice and bright..
Clean with an old toothbrush, not a wash cloth. It’s gentler than a washcloth and useful easier for cleaning around the edges of stickers and logos. If you want to clean your cap without worrying about ruining a sticker or logo, you can tape it with a small piece of plastic wrap.
Clean the stains first, and the rest later. Hand wash dirt and sweat stains before cleaning the rest of the cap inside and out. Let the cap rest under soapy water for half an hour before drying.
- Dry and hang your cap. You can dry the cap by patting it with a light-colored wash cloth to keep the color from bleeding and let it rest on top of a ball shaped object (a ball or an upside down bowl works great!).
